SINGAPORE (ICIS)–China’s Zhejiang Petroleum and Chemical has started building a 20m tonne/year atmospheric and vacuum distillation plant at its joint venture refinery-petrochemical complex, a company source said on Friday.

The plant is expected to be commissioned in October next year, the source said.

Its integrated downstream plants will gradually start up at the end of 2018 or earlier, according to the company source.

The complex will have a total refining capacity of 40m tonnes/year, aromatics capacity of 10m tonnes/year, ethylene capacity of 2.8m tonnes/year and 20m tonnes/year of various downstream products.

The Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission earlier approved Zhejiang Petroleum and Chemical’s plans to construct the integrated refining project in May.

The project will have a total refining capacity of 40m tonnes/year, aromatics capacity of 10m tonnes/year, ethylene capacity of 2.8m tonnes/year and 20m tonnes/year of various downstream products.

The project has been divided into two phases, with the first phase scheduled to come on stream in October 2018, while the second phase of the project is slated for start-up in 2020.

Zhoushan-based Zhejiang Petroleum and Chemical is a joint venture between Zhejiang Rongsheng Enterprises Holdings, Juhua Group, Zhejiang Tongkun Group and Zhoushan Marine Investment. It is the largest integrated refining complex in China.
