HOUSTON (ICIS)--Covestro is planning to expand its thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) production capacity in North America by 25% by debottlenecking its New Martinsville, West Virginia, facility, according to a statement from the company obtained by ICIS on Tuesday.
According to the company, the expansion demonstrates Covestro’s commitment to the polyurethane business as well as the importance of TPU in Covestro’s overall product portfolio.
Marius Wirtz, global head of TPU for Covestro, stated, “We are very enthusiastic about the expansion of capacity in North America. This aligns with our expansion activities in other regions and is a sign of our commitment to this innovative and versatile polymer.”
The additional capacity is expected to come online in the second quarter of 2018 and will expand production of Covestro’s Texin line of TPU products, which are used in a wide variety of extrusion and injection moulding applications.
