LyondellBasell CEO Bob Patel to receive 2018 ICIS Kavaler Award

The 2018 ICIS Kavaler Award, sponsored by The Chemists’ Club, will be awarded to Bob Patel, CEO of LyondellBasell, for outstanding achievement as voted on and recognised by his peers.

This prestigious and unique global chemical industry award will be presented to Patel at a black tie dinner ceremony on Thursday, 13 September 2018, at the Metropolitan Club of New York.

The winner of the ICIS Kavaler Award is selected by his/her peers – the senior executives of the ICIS Top 40 Power Players listing.

“I’m incredibly humbled to accept this award on behalf of the 13,000 men and women of LyondellBasell who are setting new standards for excellence in our industry each and every day,” said Patel. “For me, this honour isn’t about one individual, but what our entire team around the world is doing collectively every day to advance solutions to our greatest challenges and the positive future we know is possible.”

Taking a disciplined approach to capital spending, LyondellBasell, led by Patel since the start of 2015, has made incremental US ethylene capacity expansions rather than building a new cracker. This set the stage for major downstream investments in polyethylene (PE) and propylene oxide (PO)/tertiary butyl alcohol on the US Gulf Coast, as well as the recently announced acquisition of US plastics compounder A. Schulman.

Previous winners of the ICIS Kavaler Award include BASF CEO Kurt Bock (2017), INEOS chairman Jim Ratcliffe (2016), former Dow Chemical CEO Andrew Liveris (2015), former LyondellBasell CEO Jim Gallogly (2014) and former PPG CEO Charles Bunch (2013).
