SINGAPORE (ICIS)–China will form a Ministry of Ecological Environment to replace the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), and take over some responsibilities from other government bodies, Xinhua reported on Tuesday.

The new ministry will be responsible for compiling and implementation of environment policies, plans and standards, as well as their monitoring and enforcement.

Pollution control and nuclear and radiation safety will fall under the ministry’s purview.

The new ministry will also organize inspections of central authorities on environmental protection, Xinhua said.
