China tariffs on $16bn of US goods to take effect 23 August

HOUSTON (ICIS)–China said on Wednesday that it will begin imposing 25% tariffs on $16bn of US goods starting 23 August.

The announcement from China’s Ministry of Commerce came a day after the US finalised its second list, on which $16bn of Chinese goods will be assessed 25% tariffs starting 23 August.

China’s list of $16bn of US goods include oil products and petrochemicals. (please see the list of chemicals below)

The US began implemented tariffs on $34bn of Chinese goods on 6 July, and China responded with the same scale and intensity.

Since then, the US has announced additional  proposed tariffs on $200bn worth of Chinese goods.

China has proposed additional tariffs on $60bn of US products including liquefied natural gas (LNG) and key petrochemicals such as aromatics, methanol and isocyanates.
