KUALA LUMPUR (ICIS)–Lotte Chemical’s $3bn joint venture ethane cracker complex in the US is on track to start commercial production at the start of 2019, a company executive said on Monday.

The 1m tonne/year ethane cracker and 760,000 tonnes/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) facility being built at the site in Lake Charles, Louisiana, are now “92-93% complete”, said Cheong Peng Khuan, senior vice president of human resources and procurement at Lotte Chemical Titan.

He was speaking at the 2018 Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference (APIC) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Mechanical completion of the complex is expected in the second half of this year before commercial production starts in the first half of 2019, Cheong added.

The 2018 APIC runs on 20-21 August.
