LONDON (ICIS)--Mediterranean export caustic soda prices fell this week on the back of the long market and strong availability.
Mediterranean FOB (free on board) prices were assessed at $410-430/dmt, down by $20/dmt on the high end.
In August and early September, there were some prices quoted in the mid- $400s/dmt FOB up to $500/dmt FOB. However these prices were unconfirmed in recent weeks. Sources putting prices in the major import markets such as Turkey and Italy mostly in the low $400s/dmt FOB.
Other sources also put prices in the Mediterranean generally below the previous ICIS range.
There is good availability in the market due in part to imports from the Middle East and Black Sea. Demand in Turkey, a major import market, has also slowed down as a result of the currency crisis caused by the collapse of the lira against the dollar, with demand in Asia also said to be low at present.
Northwest (NWE) FOB prices rolled over at $485-490/dmt, with no major changes heard this week. Further feedback is expected later in the month.
