HOUSTON (ICIS)–Chevron Phillips Chemical plans to shut down a paraxylene (PX) plant in Pascagoula, Mississippi, the company said on Friday.

The plant has a capacity of 495,000 tonnes/year, and it is Chevron Phillips’s sole PX unit.

Chevron Phillips did not specify when it would shut down the plant, but said it would leave the business by the end of the year.

The company said it is leaving the business because it is not material to the company’s financial results.

The plant represents about 10% of US capacity.
