LONDON (ICIS)–ExxonMobil’s new Group II plant in Rotterdam is “now commercially ready” and “first shipments have left the refinery”, an executive announced on Thursday.

“Production [has been] running on spec for a bit more than two weeks now,” said Sylvie Houry, ExxonMobil’s Global Market Development Manager for Base Stocks and Specialities.

“Product is being distributed. The first shipments [have] left the refinery as we speak. Customers will receive first shipments in first quarter of this year.”

Confirming the long-suspected capacity of the plant, Houry said: “We can now say Rotterdam is the first world-scale Group II [production] in Europe, producing about 1m tonnes.”

Houry was speaking at the 23rd ICIS World Base Oils & Lubricants conference taking place in London from 20-22 Febraury.
