HOUSTON (ICIS)-- US producer Lucite International is seeking an increase of 3 cents/lb ($66/tonne) for methyl methacrylate (MMA), effective 1 April or as contracts allow.
US MMA prices are facing upward pressure following a plant outage and the uptick in demand that is seen in the spring.
Lucite temporarily halted MMA production at its Beaumont plant in Texas.
Lucite – the largest supplier to the merchant market – said their customers are not likely to see an impact from the outage.
Buyers have not experienced any issues in getting material, but that could change as the spring approaches and as Lucite is expected to remain shut through April.
ICIS assessed US MMA prices for February contracts at 169-179 cents/lb FD (free delivered) on US rail and 171-181 cents/lb FD for US tank truck.
US MMA producers include Arkema, DowDuPont, Evonik and Lucite.
