Feiplastic ’19: BASF highlights two nylon grades

SAO PAULO (ICIS)–During Feiplastic, BASF highlighted two new nylon grades that are intended to provide the aesthetic qualities of other materials while providing the durability of polyamides, officials said on Thursday.

Ultramid Deep Gloss is intended to match the glossy surfaces that characterise styrenics, said BASF director of performance materials for South America. He made his comments on the sidelines of the Feiplastic trade show.

At the same time, the material will also provide the chemical, mechanical and thermal resistance that are typical of polyamides.

BASF is targeting cosmetics and automotive applications.

The company also highlighted Ultramid Vision, a semi-transparent, semi-crystalline polyamide.

There are other polyamides that are semi-transparent, but they are amorphous and much more expensive, said Murilo de Barros Feltran, produce management & marketing manager, performance materials – South America.

BASF is targeting Ultramid Vision for applications that require a semi-transparent resin with nylon’s performance and without the price premium of other materials.

The Feira Internacional do Plastic (Feiplastic) takes place on 22-26 April in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
