SAO PAULO (ICIS)–Tricon Energy has unveiled a new sustainability initiative called Eco-Tricon, said Pierre Baron, CEO of Tricon Do Brazil, on the sidelines of this year’s Feiplastic.

The new initiative is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and will make several additions to the company’s operations in Brazil.

These will include monthly lectures about segregation, recycling, water pollution and contamination and the impact of plastic waste on the environment. These educational efforts will start with Tricon employees and then expand to neighbourhoods and communities.

Tricon has also introduced recycling containers in cooperation with local municipal authorities which will be placed in Tricon’s office building as well as throughout the neighbourhood.

Another part of the initiative features a partnership with local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to collect plastic waste from Brazilian beaches for recycling. The NGOs will visit various locations in Sao Paulo state every week to collect trash in the water.

Additionally, Tricon has partnered with a Brazilian compounder to jointly market a line of recycled resins.  The recycled plastics included in the new product line include polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polycarbonate (PC), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and nylon.

Tricon Energy is global trading, distribution and marketing company in the petrochemicals industry with a footprint in more than 100 countries.

Feira Internacional do Plastico (Feiplastic) takes place on 22-26 April in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
