HOUSTON (ICIS)–ExxonMobil will proceed with a previously disclosed $2bn chemical expansion project at its integrated petrochemical production site in Baytown, Texas, the US energy and chemicals major said on Thursday.

The expansion, expected to start up in 2022, includes a new 400,000 tonne/year Vistamaxx-brand performance polymer unit.

Vistamaxx is a semi-crystalline copolymer of propylene and ethylene.

It will also include a 350,000 tonne/year linear alpha olefins (LAO) plant.

“Our Baytown chemical expansion will put us in a solid position to maximise the value of increased Permian Basin production and will deliver higher-demand, higher-value products produced at our Gulf Coast refining and chemical facilities,” said CEO Darren Woods.
