MOSCOW (MRC)–Polypropylene (PP) imports into Russia rose in first four months of 2020 by 23% year on year to 71,000 tonnes, according to MRC’s DataScope report.

While the increase for the four-month period was notable, a sharp decrease was registered in April.

The country was practically the whole month in lockdown to contain the pandemic and the rouble’s depreciation against major currencies.

Homopolymer PP imports for the four-month period stood at 29,100 tonnes, up from 18,900 tonnes a year earlier.

PP block copolymers imports stood at 20,100 tonnes, also up from last year’s 16,200 tonnes.

Imports of PP random copolymers were 10,800 tonnes in January-April, compared to 11,400 tonnes a year earlier.

Russia’s imports of other polymers of propylene totalled about 11,000 tonnes in the first four months of the year, compared to 11,500 tonnes a year earlier.

MRC, a partner of ICIS, produces polymers news and pricing reports from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
