HOUSTON (ICIS)–Westlake Chemical expects production at some of its units at Lake Charles, Louisiana to restart by the end of September and full production to resume in early October, the US-based chemicals company said in an update on Tuesday.

Hurricane Laura, which made landfall near Lake Charles on 27 August, hit operations of Westlake and many other chemical and energy firms in the area.

Westlake said that local utility Entergy Louisiana reported extensive damage to the electricity transmission system in the Lake Charles area and that restoration of service would take a number of weeks.

“Given Entergy’s latest guidance on the restoration of power to the Lake Charles area, barring other unforeseen circumstances, we currently expect production at some of our units to restart by the end of September and full production to resume in early October,” Westlake said.

Hurricane Laura caused a total estimated $8bn-12bn in insurable losses to property in Louisiana and Texas, officials have said.
