US President Trump, wife test positive for coronavirus

SINGAPORE (ICIS)–US President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for the coronavirus, about a month before the US presidential elections.

On Friday, Trump posted on his Twitter account: “Tonight, @FLOTUS [first lady of the US] and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

Republican Trump is seeking a second term in a presidential election scheduled in early November.

As of 1 October, the coronavirus pandemic has infected nearly 34m people, with deaths at more than 1m, data from the World Health Organisation (WHO) showed.
