SINGAPORE (ICIS)–India’s overall production of vehicles in October rose by 35.6% amid a sharp rise in two-wheeler output, industry data showed on Wednesday.

Production of two-wheelers, which makes up 85.4% of overall vehicle output, surged by 40.1% in October,  according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Overall sales rose 14% year on year in October while exports were up by 16.3%, according to data from SIAM.

“There were marked improvements witnessed across certain segments due to very good festive demand,” said Rajesh Menon, director general of SIAM.

“October wholesale numbers have been good on account of dealers preparing to serve demand for the upcoming Diwali festival, which is in November this year,” he added.
