SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Sika has commissioned a manufacturing facility in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), which produces epoxy resins aimed at flooring solutions, the Swiss specialty chemicals firm said on Thursday.

The locally produced epoxy resins are a key component of Sika’s flooring solutions which are used to seal the surfaces of industrial floors and flooring for private homes.

Investment and capacity details were not disclosed.

The economy of the UAE has been in decline due to the effects of the coronavirus crisis and the drop in oil prices, Sika said in a statement.

“However, thanks to extensive investments in transport infrastructure, the construction industry is expected to recover quickly,” it said. “As early as 2021, the building sector should see growth of 1.8% and gain further momentum in subsequent years.”
