It is always handy to have a good economic plan and even better when you make it work, which is what China has done this year to the great benefit of the global petrochemicals business. As the chart in the blog shows, the global impact of stronger-than-expected Chinese polypropylene and styrene demand in 2020 is going to be big. But the proverbial 10,000-pound gorilla of self-sufficiency, who's been sleeping very quietly in the corner of the room throughout this year, might be about to wake up. Chinese PP and styrene imports could be sharply lower in 2021.
