MUMBAI (ICIS)–India’s KLJ Plasticizers Ltd (KLJ) plans to build a greenfield 200,000 tonne/year phthalic anhydride (PA) plant at Jhagadia in western Gujarat state, a company source said on Thursday.

The company expects to begin operations at the plant in 2024, it said in its submission to the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change.

The complex, which is expected to cost Indian rupees (Rs) 6bn ($82m) will also produce 7,100 tonnes/year maleic anhydride (MA) and 480,000 tonnes/year of other plasticisers, the source said.

“Based on our survey, we have found that there is a big potential in the domestic market for the range of products that we are planning,” he said, adding that the products would be marketed internationally as well.
