LONDON (ICIS)–Vopak is to expand its capacity in Rotterdam for the storage of waste-based feedstocks for production of biofuels, the Dutch chemicals storage and logistics provider said on Wednesday.

Vopak will build 16 tanks with a combined capacity of 64,000 cubic metres at Vopak Terminal Vlaardingen.

The renewable feedstocks that will be stored in the new tanks will come from waste materials such as used cooking oil and tallow.

The Dutch logistics major also published its financial results for 2020; as expected, the effects of the logistics woes caused by the pandemic hit the company.

Sales fell around 5%, but earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT, or operating profit) and net profit collapsed compared with 2019 on the back of provisions caused by the global downturn.
