Brazil: PP productive chain secures tax relief, import quota

HOUSTON(ICIS)–The Brazilian plastics industry association, ABIPLAST has confirmed import taxes on polypropylene (PP) have been reduced to zero.

Additionally, a quota for imports of 77,000 tonnes per quarter has been implemented.

The authorised volume for the next three months is proportional to the annual imported volume of PP homopolymers which totalled 243,000 tonnes.

ABIPLAST and members of the productive chain, including Braskem, are attentively monitoring the market daily to assess if additional measures are necessary.

Major producers in the region include: Braskem, Petrocuyo, Petroquim, Essentia, and Indelpro.

Polypropylene (PP) is used for packaging, ropes, carpets, plastic parts, loudspeakers and automotive parts.
