MUMBAI (ICIS)–India’s SRF Ltd has commissioned its new 45,000 tonne/year biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) unit in Thailand.

The new plant is located at the company’s manufacturing site in Rayong province, the company said in a statement on 20 July.

There is a strong market in Thailand for BOPP films as the country is currently a net importer of the material, the company said.

Currently, SRF operates two biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BOPET) lines – a 30,000 tonne/year unit and a 40,000 tonnes/year unit – at the Rayong complex.

The company also plans to increase its BOPP capacity in India with a new 60,000 tonne/year line at Indore in the Madhya Pradesh state.

In India, SRF operates two complexes in Madhya Pradesh and one in Uttarakhand state, which have a combined production capacity of 87,500 tonnes/year polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin; 93,000 tonnes/year BOPET; and 34,000 tonnes/year BOPP.

In Hungary, the company operates a 40,000 tonne/year BOPET plant; and in South Africa, a 30,000 tonne/year BOPP line in Durban.
