accident
LyondellBasell has declared a force majeure on
propylene glycol methyl ether acetate (PMA)
following an acetic
acid leak in La Porte, Texas, on 27
July that killed two people and injured six
others.

July ethylene settles at record increase amid
outages, rising ethane
US July ethylene contracts for the majority of
market participants settled at an 11.0 cents/lb
($243/tonne) increase from June on higher
month-on-month spot prices and cash costs.

NOAA sees active Atlantic hurricane season with
up to 5 major hurricanes
Atmospheric and oceanic conditions are
“conducive” for an above-average Atlantic
hurricane season, with 3-5 major hurricanes,
officials at the National Oceanic and

webcast update on Wednesday.
Trinseo sees lower
styrene margins but continued derivative demand
in 2H
US-based styrenics and engineered plastics
producer Trinseo sees continued strong demand
for polystyrene (PS), polycarbonate (PC) and
acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) in 2H but
anticipates lower profitability as styrene
margins normalise as supply levels increase.
Freight rates continue to
rocket with no end in sight to container
crisis
Container freight rates continue to break
records, with new data showing a further
massive spike on the key Asia to Europe and
Asia to US routes.
Canada’s Pembina Pipeline
still eyeing PDH/PP – CEO
Canadian midstream energy company Pembina
Pipeline is still looking at opportunities for
a propane dehydrogenation/polypropylene
(PDH/PP) facility, CEO Mick Dilger said in a
