HOUSTON (ICIS)–US Gulf crude and offshore natural gas supply is still on its recovery phase after Hurricane Ida disrupted output.
About 40% of the current oil production and 48% of the current gas production remains shut in, the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) said on Tuesday.
The following table shows the number of platforms and rigs evacuated, including the total of oil and natural gas that has been shut in.
Total | % | |
Platforms evacuated | 39 | 6.69 |
Rigs evacuated | 0 | 0 |
Oil shut in (bbl/day) | 720,217 | 39.57 |
Gas shut in (bcf/day) | 1.074 | 48.20 |

Oil producers in the region have experienced an uneven recovery in the days after Hurricane Ida made landfall, due to damages of some facilities, power outages in the region and lack of crews.
Shell said its Appomattox, Enchilada/Salsa and Auger assets continue to ramp up production. Its Mars, Ursa and Olympus assets remain shut in.
Its West Delta-143 offshore facility is still offline as the company continues to understand the extent of the damage.
These facilities serve as the transfer station for all production from Shell operated assets in the Mars corridor in the Gulf of Mexico to onshore crude and natural gas terminals.
The EIA revised down their Q3 2021 demand figure by 200,000 bbl/day in Tuesday’s report.
The US Department of Energy announced it had awarded 20m bbl of crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to eight companies.
POWER RESTORATION
More than 90% of customers have had power
restored in Louisiana, approximately 84,000
customers remain without power, local power
distributor Entergy said on Tuesday.
The power distributor is also working to restore power to customers in Texas who have been affected by Tropical Storm Nicholas.
Approximately 9,913 customers are without power in the lone star state, but Entergy expects to restore power by the end of Tuesday and hardest-hit areas by Wednesday night.
