Germany’s Roehm to expand Shanghai PMMA capacity by Q2 2023

SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Germany’s Roehm will expand the production capacity of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) moulding compounds in Shanghai, China by the second quarter of 2023.

Details of the additional capacity were not disclosed in the company’s statement dated 3 January.

Roehm currently operates a 100,000 tonne/year methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant and a 40,000 tonne/year PMMA plant in Caojing, Shanghai, according to ICIS Supply and Demand Database.

The company has yet to reply to ICIS’ query on the planned capacity expansion in Shanghai.

Roehm has cited dynamic economic development in downstream automotive and lighting industry in Asia as the driver for its planned expansion.
