MUMBAI (ICIS)–India’s Balaji Amines expects to begin operations at the 40,000 tonne/year methyl amines plant at its Solapur greenfield chemicals project in the western Maharashtra state by March 2024.

“The methyl amines plant is expected to be commissioned during the second half of fiscal year 2023-24,” it said in a disclosure to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on 7 February.

The company has also received environmental clearance for its 15,000 tonne/year n-butylamines plant and expects to begin work on the project soon, it said.

“Detailed engineering is already completed for the n-butylamines plant, and the project is ready for execution,” it added.

N-butylamine is used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, pesticides and emulsifiers.

India’s domestic demand for the product stands at around 8,000 tonnes/year which is currently being met by imports, the company said.

In addition to the methyl amines and n-butylamines plants, the company is also setting up a 15,000 tonne/year acetonitrile plant, and a 30,000 tonnes/year dimethyl formamide plant

In the first phase of the greenfield chemicals project in Solapur, Balaji Amines had commissioned a 15,000 tonne/year di-methyl carbonate (DMC)/propylene carbonate unit and a 15,000 tonne/year propylene glycol (PG) line.

The company produces methylamines, ethyl amines and specialty chemicals from three sites – two in Maharashtra and one in the southern Telangana state.
