Singapore’s chemicals output down 3.4% in May; overall manufacturing up 13.8%

SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Singapore’s chemicals cluster output fell by 3.4% year on year in May on the back of lower production due to plant turnarounds, official data showed on Friday.

Output from the petrochemicals segment fell by 14.7% year on year in May, while petroleum output was down by 1.0%, the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) said in a statement.

May output of other chemicals and specialties segments posted growth of 11.9% and 4.6%, respectively, in May.

Overall, output from the chemicals cluster decreased by 2.1% year on year in January-May 2022.

Singapore’s manufacturing output increased by 13.8% in May on a year-on-year basis.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, manufacturing output increased by 10.9%.
