AFPM ’23: Texas PET plant may start up in Q4 ’24 – Indorama

SAN ANTONIO (ICIS)–A new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant could start operations in the fourth quarter of 2024, the deputy CEO of one of the project’s partners said on Monday.

Construction is at full swing at the site, which has about 900 people working there, said DK Agarwal, deputy group CEO of Indorama Ventures. He made his comments in an interview with ICIS on the sidelines of the International Petrochemical Conference (IPC) of the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM).

The project is being developed by Corpus Christi Polymers, a joint venture made up of Alpek, Indorama Ventures and Far Eastern New Century.

The plant will produce 1.1m tonnes/year of PET and 1.3m tonnes/year of purified terephthalic acid (PTA).

Agarwal said the project should be the most cost-competitive PET plant on the Gulf Coast.

The IPC runs through Tuesday.
