SAO PAULO (ICIS)–Mexico’s state-owned energy major Pemex has started delivering ethane from its Pajaritos import terminal to its petrochemicals complexes in Cangrajera and Morelos, a spokesperson for the terminal said to ICIS on Wednesday.

Pemex started receiving ethane at the now called Terminal Refrigerada de Etileno y Embarques Pajaritos (TREEP) a month ago, after 23 years without having received any delivery of the natural gas liquid (NGL).

The terminal and the two petrochemicals sites are in Coatzacoalcos, state of Veracruz, in Mexico’s south.

According to a Pemex executive, the move would help strengthen Pemex’s petrochemicals division.

“We hadn’t received any ethane delivery at this terminal since the year 2000. This is part of the rescue we want to make of petrochemicals, which can be so useful for the country and for Pemex,” said Jorge Luis Basaldua, Pemex’s director for industrial transformation, in a post on social media network X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to the ICIS Supply & Demand data, Cangrajera and Morelos’ production capacities are as follows:
