MOSCOW (ICIS news)--TogliattiAzot plans to commission its new 550,000 tonne/year methanol plant in late June or early July and inaugurate a new 25,000 tonne urea formaldehyde concentrate (UFC) facility later this month, a spokesman for Russia’s major ammonia producer said on Thursday.
Based at Togliatti in the Samara region of Central Russia, TogliattiAzot currently has about 450,000 tonne/year of methanol capacity and facilities to produce around 40,000 tonne/year of UFC, said spokesman Igor Bashunov.
He said the company plans to raise total UFC capacity to 200,000 tonne/year by March 2007.
Bashunov said TogliattiAzot, the largest former Soviet Union ammonia producer, had proceded with its expansion plans undaunted by legal problems which have recently surrounded its top executives. He said, moreover that a Togliatti court had now agreed with the company's legal team and ruled illegal Russian international warrants issued to detain TogliattiAzot chairman Vladimir Makhlai and chief executive Alexander Makarov on fraud and tax evasion charges.
