US styrenics producer Styron to change name to Trinseo in 2011

SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Styron plans to change its name to Trinseo within this year, the US-based styrenics producer said in a statement on Wednesday.

“The name change will be fully effective in all countries later in 2011,” the company said, without mentioning a specific date.

“The company will continue to do business as Styron until that time,” the statement added.

The Styron brand will continue to be used as a trade name for the firm’s polystyrene products, according to the statement.

Styron, a former division of Dow Chemical, was launched as a stand-alone company in June 2010 following its sale to private equity firm Bain Capital.

The company’s global headquarters is based in Pennsylvania.
