DUBAI (ICIS)--Borouge is planning to start up its new Borouge 3 cracker in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, by the first quarter of 2014, an executive from its stakeholder Borealis said on Wednesday.
Borouge is a joint venture between Borealis and the Abu Dhabi state-owned oil company ADNOC.
"We are in the process of preparing for the start-up," said Mark Garrett, CEO of Austria-headquartered plastics, chemicals and fertilizer producer Borealis.
"The rest of the downstream facilities will be starting up in staggered formation during the course of 2014," Garrett said at the sidelines of the 8th annual Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals (GPCA) forum in Dubai.
The start-up of the Borouge 3 project is expected to raise the company's olefins and polyolefins capacity by 2.5m tonnes/year, according to the official website.
The GPCA forum started on 19 November and will end on Thursday.
