Singapore Nov NODX falls 8.8%; pertchems exports slump 17.5%SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Singapore’s non-oil domestic exports (NODX)  in November declined by 8.8% year on year, with shipment values of petrochemicals largely unchanged at Singapore dollars (S$) 1.1bn ($880m), official data released on Tuesday showed.

Export volumes of some petrochemical products, however, were sharply higher on a year-on-year basis, according to data from International Exchange (IE) Singapore.

Benzene exports rose by 54.5% year on year to 8,857 tonnes in November, while toluene shipments more than doubled to 26,896 tonnes. (Please see table below)

Paraxylene shipments nearly doubled to 56,688 tonnes, but ortho-xylene exports fell by 36.7% to 6,128 tonnes.

Lower overall shipments were recorded in seven out of the country’s 10 major export destinations during the month, according to International Exchange (IE) Singapore.

“The top three contributors to the NODX decline in November 2013 were the EU 27, Hong Kong and South Korea,” it said in a statement.

On a month-on-month basis, the city-state’s NODX shrank 9.3% in November to Singapore dollars (S$) 13.2bn, compared with $14.6bn recorded in October, the data showed.

Singapore’s total trade in November slipped 1.1% year on year, following a 7.9% growth in October, with growth in total exports slowing down to 1% from an 11.2% pace in the previous month, according to IE Singapore.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s November oil domestic exports dipped 1.5% year on year as sales to both China and to Vietnam declined by 43.9%, while sales to the EU 27 contracted by 12.6%, it said.

In terms of volume, oil domestic exports for the month were down by 0.8% compared with a 6.4% expansion in October.
