SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwanese producer China Petrochemical Development Corp (CPDC) has scheduled an annual turnaround for its 200,000 tonne/year caprolactam (capro) plant in Xiaogang on 6 January 2014 for two weeks, a company source said on Thursday.

While the plant is currently running close to full capacity before the shutdown commences, market participants should still expect a reduction in the company’s January capro contract volumes, the source added.

According to the source, buyers had been notified of the shortage and they have requested for more volumes to be shipped in December. “We have also made arrangements for that,” the source said.

CPDC supplies its capro largely to domestic buyers in Taiwan.

Several contract buyers said that they have made or will be making purchases in the spot market to cover some requirements during the plant’s shutdown period.

CPDC has two other capro production units with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes each in Toufen. One unit is currently operating at around 95% capacity, while the new unit is scheduled to start up only in the fourth quarter of 2014, the source said.
