LONDON (ICIS)--ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions has won a contract to supply a basic engineering and licensing package for a 20,000 tonne/year aerosol-grade dimethyl ether (DME) plant in Russia, the Germany-based chemical engineer said on Tuesday.

Construction of the joint-venture project between Russia’s JSC Shchekinoazot and Germany-based PCC at Shchekino, about 200km south of Moscow, is expected to be completed by the end of 2015, ThyssenKrupp said, without disclosing the value of the contract.

The DME plant will source its methanol feedstock from recently installed methanol facilities at JSC Shchekinoazot’s site in Shchekino.

Aerosol-grade DME is primarily used in the cosmetics industry as a propellant for hairsprays, as well as in the production of insulating foams.

Upon completion, the DME plant will be the first of its kind in the region, ThyssenKrupp added.
