SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thailand’s PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) is expected to shut its 515,000 tonne/year I-4 No 1 cracker in Map Ta Phut in a few days’ time to resolve a technical issue, a source close to the company said on Friday
The duration of the shutdown is as yet unclear, the source said.
“The company will have to investigate the problem after the plant is shut, before it can give an estimate of the downtime,’’ the source said.
Some market sources said the plant may shut for about a month.
The shutdown at the naphtha-feed cracker, which follows an ongoing turnaround at PTTGC’s gas cracker and a propylene unit, will likely have a significant impact on the producer’s overall propylene and ethylene balance, traders said.
The company shut its 460,000 tonne/year I-1 gas cracker and 100,000 tonne/year propane dehydrogenation unit (PDH) in Map Ta Phut on 9 February, for around 40 days of maintenance.
