SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Shanghai Gaoqiao on 20 February shut its 100,000 tonne/year phenol/acetone plant at Pudong in Shanghai city for around 40 days of maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

The shutdown was largely due to a feedstock cumene supply shortage, according to the source.

However, the producer’s 60,000 tonne/year phenol/acetone plant at the same site, is running “normally”, as it has sufficient cumene inventories, the source added.

Cumene, which is derived from benzene and propylene, is a feedstock for phenol/acetone.

The company owns another plant in Caojing district of Shanghai city, which can produce 135,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 85,000 tonnes/year of acetone.

The Caojing plant is scheduled to be shut for 45 days of maintenance starting on 10 March because of a feedstock propylene supply shortage, the source said.
