SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Corporation (FPC) has delayed the start-up for its new ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) project in Ningbo, China, to August or September, from its second quarter to mid-2014 schedule, according to a company official on Tuesday.

The company’s 72,000 tonne/year EVA plant being built in eastern China under the first phase of the project was originally scheduled to come on stream in the third quarter of 2013 but has been delayed several times owing in part to difficulties in securing plant equipment.

“Construction at the Ningbo site is ongoing and the plant is slated to start up in August or September,” the official said.

The plant will mainly produce EVA with a high vinyl acetate (VA) content of above 26% and high melt-index grades that can be used for the production of hot melt adhesives and solar cell encapsulant films.
