LONDON (ICIS)--EU imports of monoethanolamine (MEA) grew 6% January compared to the same period last year, according to data released by statistics agency Eurostat on Monday.

Imports for January were 2,793 tonnes compared to 2,630 tonnes in January 2013. The rise was due to healthier demand, with construction in particular stronger due to the warmer weather.

Exports grew strongly over the same period, but are small compared to the volume of imports. The EU remains a significant net importer, and is likely to remain so given the difference in ethylene economics, according to market sources.
