HOUSTON (ICIS)--A US company is seeking a permit from regulators for a renewable polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant in South Carolina, according to an application dated Tuesday.

Cooper River Partners filed the application with the US Army Corps of Engineers and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Cooper River Partners owns the Bushy Park Industrial Complex, where the plant will be built.

One of the PET feedstocks, purified terephthalic acid (PTA), will be delivered to the plant.

The other PET feedstock, ethylene glycol (EG), will be produced on site by dehydrating ethanol. The ethanol apparently will be sugarcane based.

The plant will produce 1,200 tons/day of PET for the North American market. The permit did not specify if the unit of measurement was short tons or metric tonnes.

Attempts to contact Cooper River Partners were unsuccessful on Tuesday afternoon.
