SCG's joint petchem complex in Vietnam to complete in early 2019

HO CHI MINH (ICIS)--Siam Cement Group's (SCG) joint venture petrochemical complex in Long Son Island, Ba Ria province in Vietnam is expected to be completed by early 2019, a senior official of SCG Chemicals said on Thursday.

Construction of the project is expected to begin after the first quarter of 2015, said SCG Chemicals' vice president for operations, Somchai Wangwattanapanich.

He was speaking at the sidelines of the two-day Refining and Petrochemicals Southeast Asia Forum which opened in Ho Chi Minh on 8 May.

SCG Chemicals is a wholly owned subsidiary of SCG.

The Long Son joint venture petrochemical complex will include a 1.4m tonne/year cracker and downstream polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) plants.

The other partners in this project are Qatar Petroleum, PetroVietnam and Vietnam National Chemical Corp (Vinachem).
