SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Xianglu Petrochemical plans to shut its 1.65m tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit in Xiamen for a one-month turnaround starting on the weekend of 17 May, a company source said on Thursday.
Xianglu initially planned to shut the unit in April because of some equipment issues at the unit, the source said without providing further details.
However, the shutdown was delayed because of Xianglu’s limited PTA inventory, which in turn was due to several hiccups with the start-up of its 4.5m tonne/year PTA unit in Zhangzhou, the source said. The Zhangzhou unit includes three 1.5m tonne/year lines.
Although one of the 1.5m tonne/year PTA lines in Zhangzhou was successfully started up in end-April, the second 1.5m tonne/year line is still undergoing test runs so Xianglu’s PTA inventories are still limited, according to a market source.
As a result, only small volumes of PTA produced from Xianglu’s Zhangzhou unit are being supplied to the east China market, a separate market participant said.
