MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Spanish producer CEPSA Quimica is on track to begin commercial operations at its new phenol/acetone unit in Shanghai in the fourth quarter of 2014, a source close to the company said on Friday.
The plant, which will have a capacity to produce 250,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 150,000 tonnes/year of acetone, will make CEPSA the second largest producer of phenol in the world, according a company statement published in April this year.
An integrated 360,000 tonne/year upstream cumene plant is scheduled to be onstream in the first quarter of 2015, the source said previously.
Japanese trading company Sumitomo Corporation acquired 25% of CEPSA Quimica China, according to the same statement.
