TOKYO (ICIS)-- Japan’s production of plastic feedstocks decreased by 1.1% year on year to 818,800 tonnes in April, official data from the Japan Plastics Industry Federation (JPIF) showed on Monday.
Among these resins, production of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) rose by 5.3% year on year to 18,317 tonnes in April, while output of foamed polyurethanes (PU) increased by 7.3% to 16,359 tonnes, according to the federation.
Production of polycarbonate (PC) fell by 19% year on year to 21,046 tonnes, and output of methacrylates declined by 5.3% to 14,103 tonnes, the data showed.
Meanwhile, the country’s production of plastic products increased by 3.4% year on year to 456,700 tonnes in April, according to the JPIF.
Output of film and sheet plastic products rose by 1.6% year on year to 209,296 tonnes, while production of pipes was up by 4.9% at 33,233 tonnes, based on the statistics.
Japan produced 54,656 tonnes of plastic machine parts in April, up by 3.8% from a year earlier, the data showed.
The country’s exports of plastic feedstocks increased by 15% year on year to yen (Y) 101.6bn ($991.2m) in April, while exports of plastic products rose by 7.3% to Y119.7bn, according to the JPIF.
