SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s LG Chem’s styrene monomer (SM) operations at Yeosu are unaffected by the fire that occurred near its expandable polystyrene (EPS) facility on Thursday, a company source said.
A fire broke out at the water cleaning system of the EPS unit. The facility, located in Yeosu, has an annual resins output of around 50,000 tonnes.
“Our SM units and the EPS unit are running normally,” the source added.
LG Chem operates a 200,000 tonne/year No1 and 300,000 tonne/year No2 SM unit in Yeosu and a 160,000 tonne/year SM plant in Daesan.
LG Chem is also a major producer of ABS and PS resins.
Other SM producers in Korea include SK Global Chemicals, Samsung Total Petrochemicals and YNCC.
