SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Changshu Changchun Chemical plans to shut down its phenol/acetone plant in Changshu city of Jiangsu province for maintenance in October, a company source said on Monday.

The plant, which can produce 300,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 180,000 tonnes/year of acetone, will be shut down for one month in October and will restart around end-October, the source said.

The company also owns a 135,000 tonne/year downstream BPA plant at the same site, which will be shut in the middle of September for a 45-day maintenance, the source added.

Because of the maintenance at the phenol/acetone and BPA plants, the company will reduce its BPA supply in September, and cut off phenol, acetone and BPA supply in October, the source said.

In addition, the company owns a new BPA plant with a capacity of 135,000 tonnes/year, which is due to start at the same time as the restart of the phenol/acetone plant at around end-October. However, the company did not confirm the start schedule, the source added.

At present, Changchun’s phenol/acetone and BPA plants are running smoothly, and its 84,000 tonne/year downstream isopropyl alcohol (IPA) plant, located in Panjin city of Liaoning province were running at a low rate, the source said, without telling the exact operation ratio.
