Japan’s production of plastic feedstocks decrease 10% in June

Thailand petrochemical shares fall after martial law declarationTOKYO (ICIS)–Japan’s production of plastic feedstocks decreased by 10% year on year to 688,000 tonnes in June, official data from the Japan Plastics Industry Federation (JPIF) showed on Monday. 

Among the total, production of polyethylene (PE) fell by 5.4% year on year to 194,998 tonnes, while output of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) declined by 9.2% 16,666, according to JPIF. 

Production of polycarbonate (PC) stood at 26,585 tonnes, a 9% increase from a year earlier, while output of polyacetal (POM) was up by 2.9% at 10,972 tonnes, the data showed. 

The country’s production of plastic products stood at 450,100 tonnes in June, up by 0.6% from the same time the previous year, according to the federation. 

Among the total, production of film and sheet increased by 2.7% year on year to 207,189 tonnes, but output of pipes fell by 18% to 30,338 tonnes, based on the statistics. 

Meanwhile, Japan’s imports of plastic feedstocks fell by 0.1% year on year to yen (Y) 95.8bn ($937.9m), while exports of plastic products fell by 3.1% to Y113.1bn, the data showed.
