The company has been running its two phenol/acetone plants in Yeosu, the No 2 and No 3 plants, at 80-90% capacity, the source said.
Kumho’s No 2 plant can produce 130,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 80,000 tonnes/year of acetone, while its No 3 plant can produce 250,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 150,000 tonnes/year of acetone.
The company’s plan to begin commercial operations at its new No 4 phenol/acetone unit at the same Yeosu site in the first half of 2016 remains on schedule, the source added.
Kumho’s new plant will have a phenol nameplate capacity of 300,000 tonnes/year, and an acetone nameplate capacity of 180,000 tonnes/year.
The South Korean producer’s No 1 phenol/acetone plant has been idle since early 2009.
