HOUSTON (ICIS)--Americas Styrenics will cut the price of all grades of polystyrene (PS) by 4 cents/lb, effective on 1 October, the US-based company said in a news release issued on Tuesday.
The price decrease stems from weakening feedstock costs, primarily benzene, and supersedes all other previously announced price changes, according to the release.
Falling benzene values pulled down polystyrene contracts in September, with prices assessed last week lower by 3 cents/lb ($66/tonne).
The price decline put US September PS prices at 110-112 cents/lb for bulk general purpose PS (GPPS) DEL (delivered) and at 118-120 cents/lb for bulk high-impact PS (HIPS) DEL, as assessed by ICIS.
Major US PS producers include Total, Styrolution and Americas Styrenics.
